Born in 2020 in Rochester, NY, BLAQUE/OUT Magazine emerged as a response to a world in crisis — a society buckling under the weight of a global pandemic, racial injustice, and the relentless violence inflicted upon Black bodies by the police. In that moment of collective reckoning, Black and Brown Queer folks were left searching for spaces that embraced every facet of their identity. We were told we were too Black to be Queer and too Queer to be Black — so we built our own space.

For over 60 issues, we have celebrated the beauty, brilliance, and resilience of Black Queer and Trans culture. We’ve told the stories others refuse to tell, amplifying the voices of Activists, Educators, Artists, Entrepreneurs, and Visionaries who shape our world. We’ve delivered the news, culture, and conversations our community needs and deserves.

As we navigate yet another chapter in this country’s history — one that feels both unfamiliar and all too recognizable — we remain steadfast in our mission. BLAQUE/OUT continues to be the home for Black Queer and Trans cultural excellence: a platform, a spotlight, and a safe space.
