The Okra Project & Kings Co. v. Dominique Morgan
Blaque/OUT Magazine is a media outlet that our community trusts to bring them the news and people to watch. We don’t engage in gossip but it’s our duty to report on the things affecting our community. When a well-known community serving org accuses a well-known community figure of harm- that’s a story we can’t ignore. Currently social media is buzzing about what may or may not be happening with @thedominiquemorgan . We haven’t spoken with Dominique since Javannah Davis interviewed her this time last year at the opening of the Ts Madison Starter House and the year prior the week before her indictment. She reached out again recently to request a story about some incredible accomplishments one of the Trans women she was working with made and we of course agreed. It’s something we wouldn’t hesitate to celebrate. We never received the information to move forward with that story but have been following hers. This week Ms Morgan posted 2 videos seeming to imply she was taking a plea deal on her case to put it behind her and would serve 30 days or less and then be able to tell her story. Today, the @theokraproject released a contradictory statement. You can read both here. The court records seem to indicate Ms Morgan is being held for sentencing in 30 days. It’s possible at that point she’ll receive time served and be released per a plea deal or in fact be held after a longer sentence is imposed at the end of the month. Only time will tell, but if either TOP or Dominique is interested in sitting down to tell their story- our doors are open. What remains true without question is how incredibly disappointing it is to see this kind of conflict and confusion within community when there is so much at risk from outside of it. But accountability still has to matter more. Check back in in 30 days #dominiquemorgan#blaqueoutmagazine#theokraproject
