DC: Arrest Made in Dalonte Jackson Murder

Washington, DC- Over Memorial Day weekend, a 35yr old man, Dalonte Jackson was found brutally beaten and stabbed in a DC alley. Mr. Jackson was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries 4 days later. The day of the attack Jackson sent texts to a friend indicating he was in trouble, didn’t feel safe and describing who he was with. That information likely led to suspicion of the man that was later arrested on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant. North Carolina law enforcement officials arrested 35-year-old Maurice Pierre Hawley, of Northwest, DC.

On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, Hawley was extradited to the custody of the MPD Fugitive Unit and transported to the Homicide Branch where he was formally charged, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, with First Degree Murder per the Metropolitan Police Department website.

Jackson's family believes he was targeted and was the victim of a hate crime because he was gay. D.C. police, in response to an inquiry from News4 Washington, said: "There is no evidence to show this was a hate-bias incident."
